Best Doctoral Dissertation Award

This award recognizes an outstanding PhD thesis completed at a Canadian University in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

Nominations

Every Academic Unit within a Canadian University is invited to submit one (1) nomination to CAIAC Doctoral Dissertation Award Committee, as long as the thesis is in the area of Artificial Intelligence. The thesis submission must include:

  • a nomination letter from the head of the academic unit detailing the rationale for the nomination,
  • a reference letter from the doctoral supervisor,
  • a copy of the external examiner’s report or a summary report from the internal reviewers (maximum of two pages),
  • a non-technical summary of the dissertation (maximum of 350 words),
  • and an electronic link to the complete dissertation in PDF format.

The submission deadline is March 15th, 2022. Both English and French submissions are welcome. To be acceptable, the final (post-defense) version of the Ph.D. dissertation must have been received and accepted by the student's doctoral committee in the previous 12 months.

  1. Log on to the CAIAC website as a member. (Only members of CAIAC can submit a nomination. To register, click here)
  2. Add the thesis or publication by clicking here.
  3. Fill out the Submission for award form available here.
  4. By completing the nomination process, emails are sent to heads of academic units requesting nomination letters.

The winner will be announced at the next Canadian Conference on Artificial Intelligence, and will be invited to give a talk at the main conference. Conference registration cost and travel expenses will be covered by CAIAC.
