Danny Silver

Daniel (Danny) Silver is a Professor in and former Director of the Jodrey School of Computer Science, Acadia University, Wolfville, Nova Scotia and the Director of the Acadia Institute for Data Analytics (AIDA).    He completed a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, in June, 2000.  His research focuses on advanced methods of machine learning and their application in data mining, intelligent agents, user modeling, and adaptive systems.  From 2007-09 Dr. Silver was the President of the Canadian Society of Computational Studies of Intelligence (Canadian AI Association), and was Past-President until 2013.

Danny Silver founded the Acadia Robot Programming Competitions for middle and high school students in 2005 that annually engages 500 students and coaches in information technology, science, and teamwork across the province of Nova Scotia.  He received the 2011 Science Champion Award from the Nova Scotia Discovery Center for his work on youth robotics and the advancement of STEM education in Nova Scotia.  In December, 2013, Dr. Silver became an Honorary Colonel in the RCAF with the 14 Wing Greenwood Software Engineering Squadron and subsequently have become engaged in liaise initiatives with the Canadian Forces.

Since January, 1993, Danny Silver has been operating a consulting business (CogNova Technologies) that offers services in the areas of machine learning, knowledge discovery and data mining to companies such as London Life, 3M, Bell Aliant and the Nova Scotia Department of Health.
